The best verse hasn’t been rhymed yet,
The best house hasn’t been planned,
The highest peak hasn’t been climbed yet,
The mightiest rivers aren’t spanned;
Don’t worry and fret, faint-hearted,
The chances have just begun
For the best jobs haven’t been started,The best work hasn’t been done.
- Breton Braley
We may be having lot of plans and ideas and sometimes we wait for the right time. We also wait for getting the right resource. There are also occasions where we are waiting for the right person. This approach may have good intention and we may want to do the job perfectly. However, if we take this principle too far, we will loose valuable time. We need to understand that any action, if not done at the right time, will not produce the right result.
Many of us may also suffer from the ‘perfectionism syndrome’ where we decide choosing between either doing a thing perfectly or not doing at all. There is nothing wrong in wanting to do a thing well. But that is different from wanting to do it perfectly. Sometimes, we may use this mindset and tendency to delay things and using this as an excuse for our procrastination. Or, if the job or task on hand is unpleasant, we delay giving some reason or excuse.
Today, take a piece of paper and list all the projects that are pending with you at this point of time and against each item write down one convincing reason why you are delaying the same. You have to do this exercise true to your conscience. At the end of the exercise, feel how you feel!
You can do it today.
